GLAZING TECHNIQUES

Now it’s time to finish off your bisque fired objects created in the Handbuilding/ Wheelthrowing Techniques Workshop and decorate them with style. Students learn basic glazing and decorating techniques along with an introduction to different kiln firing processes.

SCULPTURAL KNITTING

Back by popular demand! Are you a knitter that is willing to take risks? Deviate from the traditional 2D knitting style and try knitting pieces of sculpture. This class in 3D knitting helps students develop a personal language of forms, using knitting fundamentals to create shapes while taking advantage of knit’s natural tendencies. An introduction of artists who use knitting techniques as a means of creative expression will be shown for inspiration. Students must know basic knitting techniques.

MOSAICS

Back by popular demand! Mosaic is the art of decoration with small pieces of colored glass, stone or other material. Small tiles or fragments of pottery, colored glass or clear glass backed with metal foils are used to create a pattern or picture. Experiment with color, pattern, illustration, or random chance. The choices are endless and all yours as you create a small mosaic project.

KNITTED PIN II

This class is for knitters who want to try using fine sliver wire and learn some basic metalsmithing skills to make a pin. We'll cover how to get correct tension with the wire on knitting needles, texturing metal, basic soldering and how to assemble your piece. Basic knitting experience with yarn is necessary. Previous enrollment in Knitted Pin I is not required.

EXPERIMENTAL CLAY AND PAPER TECHNIQUES

Here’s your opportunity to learn from SAC Artist Awards winner Rebecca Hutchinson. In this two day workshop students will explore paper clay and its many options. Demonstrations will include techniques for using paper clay for both vessel making and sculptural work, utilizing all building techniques to achieve qualities of translucency, weightlessness and building and repairing with ease. Working with color will also be encouraged by working with colored paper clay and investigating all sorts of surface color options. Each student will be encouraged to develop individual ideas and conceptual directions.
