Chunghie Lee: My Cup Overflows

Korean-born fiber artist Chunghie Lee, has been strongly influenced by the Korean wrapping cloths called Pojagi. Her powerful installation references the anonymous, ancient women of the Choson Dynasty, created these functional works of art. Large panels of draped silk, hemp and linen – embellished with images of Korean woman and other symbols of the past – are simultaneously contemporary in their graphic nature. Lee’s works connects past and present.

Kaplan, who has strong family ties to Brockton’s shoe industry,
this exhibition will explore how shoes can tell stories, addressing
topics such as gender, history, sexuality, race, class, and culture.

Teapots Transformed: New Interpretations

Leslie Ferrin, the author of “Teapots Transformed: Object to
Subject,” will offer an illustrated lecture on contemporary teapots
ranging from functional to art object. Since her book was published
in 1999, both artists and collectors continue to explore this object
that stands at the intersection of history and contemporary decorative
arts by tracing the development and evolution from its
functional origins to a status as sculptural object. Ferrin will survey
and examine trends in the art teapot from 1965 up
to the
present.
